The Shallow Pit

A few years ago, the shallow pit didn’t contain many carp. Then, as now, there were some very large tench about and some big old
black bream. I decided to stock whenever possible with carp as I knew it would make a rather special fishery. We obtained carp
from a few places which were eventually stocked into the pit. The results speak for themselves. It now contains around 60 carp,
with three different year classes. The first to be stocked are now in the 26-42lb range with Colin at the top of his game having
done the ‘40’ barrier for the first time last year. There are also around 7 30’s with ‘Big Head’ being the leader having been
caught last year at 38+ so we’ve big hopes for him this year... shallows next 40! Watch this space. The tench are still caught,
some by design, and as there is abundant natural food available, have not been affected by the stocking of the carp, contrary to
some peoples beliefs! Here’s to The Shallow going from strength to strength over the next few years!
